J. David Petrie is a now retired and a former Partner of Petrie Leath Larrivee & O’Rourke, LLP. Mr. Petrie focused his practice primarily in the areas of casualty litigation, products liability, and commercial litigation. He also devotes a substantial portion of his practice to matters involving medical and dental malpractice, professional liability (architects and engineers), property issues, wrongful termination, public entity defense, construction law, and general farm law. Mr. Petrie has also handled cases dealing with malicious prosecution and abuse of process. His case, Inabnit v. Berkson, involving psychiatric malpractice and the Confidentiality of Medical Information Act, set legal precedent in a Fifth District Court of Appeal opinion.
Mr. Petrie received his B.S. in Finance from the University of the Pacific and earned his J.D. at UOP’s McGeorge School of Law in 1980. He is admitted in California and before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Central, Eastern, and Southern Districts of California. Mr. Petrie is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), the Association of Northern California Defense Counsel, and the Fresno County Bar Association. Mr. Petrie is married to Susan Petrie and spends his free time farming ten acres of Valencia and navel oranges in California and runs 320 acres of corn and soy beans in Illinois. He is the 4th generation in his family to be involved in farming in Illinois.
